Lyle Lakay Returns to Cape Town City

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Lyle Lakay, is coming home to Cape Town City – but only on a season-long loan deal.

From 2017 to 2018, Lakay played for City until he was transferred to Sundowns, where he won the“Defender of the Season” award this year because of his prowess on the pitch.

On Thursday, 22 September, City announced on Twitter that the 31-year-old midfielder “has joined on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns until the end of the season.”

“It’s a great feeling to be back,” Lakay remarked. “I’m excited and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. Cape Town City is an ambitious club and that is one of the reasons I agreed to come here … I’m looking forward to contributing to the success of the club.”

City coach, Eric Tinkler, expressed his excitement about Lakay: “He is a player with a lot of experience and he has been at the club before. In terms of how he plays, it suits our style and I think he is a perfect replacement for Terrence Mashego, who has left us and joined Mamelodi Sundowns.”
